Shiva CFR 2410 Convertible May 2006
How does the Convertible work? – Technical Description
The Shiva CFR2410 Convertible loudspeaker system unifies 23 drivers in its ported enclosure. One CFR 2410 is driven three way active with power totalling up to 2kW.
Lower and middle frequency dispersion is controlled with APT Acoustic Pixel Technology.
This APT is represented by ten drivers in their respective configuration. Because of the longer wavelengths, the closely mounted drivers form together one coherent source with the desired dispersion.
The smaller wavelengths of the highs are radiated by two different specialized mid-to-high frequency systems.
The Shiva CFR 2410 can be switched to each dispersion mode, being it line or point, by interchanging the cable connecting box called TM Transfer Module mounted on the backside
of the loudspeaker.
Also the corresponding setup on the DSP-Controller must be activated.
There are ten direct radiating drivers with about 107mm diaphragm diameter covering the low- to mid-range of the frequency spectrum.
They work in different constellations for the two dispersion modes, creating a CPS coaxial point source or an SLA straight line array. *
For the mid-to-high frequencies there are two different systems for each mode.
The one for the point source is a compression driver with about 76mm diaphragm radiating into a oblate spheroidal constant coverage waveguide.
In the SLA line mode, there is an array of twelve high frequency drivers. These radiate through a proprietary waveguide having 24 horn mouths.
With the change of the TM connector box on the back, the ten low-mid drivers are regrouped electrically and geometrically, to form the desired dispersion pattern. Also, it switches over to the corresponding mid-to-high frequency system. The appropriate program on the digital speaker controller has to be chosen correspondingly, of course.
Each Shiva CFR 2410 comes fitted with two modules: One TMP for point source operation and one TML for the line. Changing the Transfer Modules and choosing the appropriate DSP-setup prepares the speakers to their work. Combined with a determined mechanical configuration of the speakers, their dispersion characteristic is changed fundamentally.
In the SLA line mode, Shiva recommends using at least five CFR 2410 to get excellent results. However, there are setups for a lesser number of elements which can bring very good results on certain circumstances, too.
* Sorry for the misleading term “triaxial” which appeared in some publications. The Shiva Convertible CFR 2410 is really three-way coaxial in its CPS coaxial point source operational mode.
